It’s inevitable that everyday has a bump in the road. Some days are filled with potholes, others are a smooth highway.
Motherhood is amazing, rewarding and wildly stressful! Even if you think you know how your day will unfold, inevitably there is always change. How we respond to the change or challenges on our path can be a practice that requires strength, repetition and frequency. It’s hard to sit in the depths of a challenging moment or period and be present to your experience.
Mindfulness is a practice that does not depend on changing the circumstances or shying away from feelings, it allows observation of your reactions as they arise as sensations and thoughts and then pass through you.
Mindful Mamas is an opportunity to learn practical strategies to practice this experience rather than fighting the tumultuous waves that pass through your everyday life as a Mum.
It’s kind of like learning to surf and move with the tide rather than fight it and get dumped like a flakey fish! Human nature and a perfectionist society tends to have us shy away from feelings of frustration, hurt, guilt or anger which constricts our experiences.
Since awareness holds the experience of the body, it is an easier route to distract the body and mind by keeping busy with tasks or projects or worry about an alternative subject matter. Allowing yourself to be centred in awareness requires practice and receptivity to deep listening. Receptivity mode means that you connect with the essence beneath thought, spoken words or actions. You turn up your care and attune yourself to a state of curiosity and be impacted by your learning.
Deep listening is the medicine that propels awareness or consciousness in the direction of your deepest desires. Your listening has a potential depth which allows challenging moments to arise and subside more easily, creating a lighter experience with greater flow.
We can tune into our awareness to shape the way we interface with the world. I have always valued connection with others, sharing stories and experiences. Participating in a group provides opportunities to deeply listen, cultivate awareness, wisdom and compassion. Being receptive to shared and personal wisdom allows a skillful navigation of life, being completely ok with the known and the unknown. Building relationships with yourself and others is the groundwork required to shine your light and carry it into the world.
Our children are our little Zen Masters, to everyone that they come into contact with. It takes a village to raise a child, to uphold the resources required to accept the child as they are, and not exclusively through the lens of one or two parents expectations and fears.
Come and join us at Berwick Mindful Mamas and orient yourself to riding this awesome adventure of parenthood with ease and flow rather than total ‘wipeout’!
